Edward Gallagher, Y11 at Dame Allans School, Newcastle approached TDR for an engineering work placement and he was fortunate in being accepted by Quantum Controls, based in Prudhoe, for a week’s work experience in July 2014. TDR has subsequently received a letter of thanks in which Edward states: “I would not have been able to learn as much as I did or learn as many useful skills. Going on work experience also helped me consider what I want to do at university and after university, more carefully, and it has helped me think about whether or not I want to be an engineer”.
TDR would like to thank Edward for being an excellent ambassador not only for TDR, but his school. TDR would also like to thank the number of engineering and science companies in the region who every year do their very best to provide much needed work placements for our talented young people.

Last week, The Journal published an interview with TDR’s Chairman, Bill McGawley, OBE. In the piece, Bill talks about TDR’s move to our new, bespoke training headquarters on Quorum Business Park and the skills shortage faced by industry in the North East that TDR are striving to close. He also recounts his own journey through the engineering sector – starting as an apprentice at GEC Large Machines Ltd all the way to his current position as Chairman of TDR Group.
