General Description

To work as part of the paint facility team to carry out painting duties including masking and preparation of parts in line with project requirements. Raise and communicate any product issues and problems with the team leader and paint team. Help solve any issues that arise during the day-to-day operation of the paint shop.

Main Duties

Principle Responsibilities

  • Work methodically through tasks to ensure quality is not compromised when under time constraints
  • Product painting in line with business requirements
  • Product preparation in line with drawing requirements
  • Moving product in and out of paint booths to maximise throughput
  • Completing documentation in line with project requirements
  • Maintain paint equipment and consumables to help minimise downtime
  • Ensure that all issues and concerns are raised with Team Leader in a timely manner
  • Comply with all Health and Safety requirements
  • Comply with all COSHH requirements
  • Comply with waste segregation procedures
  • Support overall production performance contributing ideas to quality led improvement projects that drive for excellence
  • Any other duties as reasonably requested by your Team Leader/Line Manager/Production Manager or a member of the Senior Management team

All the below will be taught during the apprenticeship:

  • Ability to understand paint specifications
  • Ability to mix paint to correct ratios and viscosities in line with product specification
  • Able to coat product to correct DFT’s as stated on the paint spec
  • Knowledge of common paint finish failures including bubbling, fisheye, orange peel effect etc

  • Flexibility to work shifts and overtime as required to support business needs


Desired Qualifications

GCSE maths and English 3/D or above (or equivalent).

n 2000 Responsive Engineering Group is formed under Express Group. Responsive Engineering Group brought together businesses already existing within Express Group – Weldex, Press-Ex, Streamline and a new company, Kingsway Precision.

Just 3 years later, in 2003 Responsive Engineering Group demerges from Express Group, taking Weldex, Pressex (formerly Press-Ex), Streamline and Kingsway Precision with them. These four businesses allowed Responsive to offer an unusually diverse amount of services including welding, fabrication, cutting, assembly, testing and pressing.

In April 2008 Responsive Engineering Group acquires Exact Engineering from Express Group, and in August of the same year Responsive merges Exact Engineering with Kingsway Precision. This furthers Responsive’s machining and engineering capabilities.

November 2012 sees Responsive Engineering Group acquired by Reece Group, a widely successful and family run business established as Soil Machine Dynamics in the early 1980’s. This leads to Responsive merging with an existing Reece Group company, Pearson Engineering Services, to form Responsive Engineering.

In 2014 Responsive Engineering moves to Armstrong works in Newcastle, a 33,300m² facility that has been a central part of British engineering for over 160 years. The historic Armstrong Works has been dubbed ‘Vickers Tank Factory’ and the ‘workshop of the world’ by many, due to its involvement in the production of ships, trains, and of course, tanks – a range of which can still be seen on display within the factory today.
