General Description

Reporting to a Senior Engineer, the R&D Apprentice will have the opportunity to develop both a practical and academic understanding of engineering. Throughout the apprenticeship, engineers at the beginning of their career will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge and learning to various business initiatives and engineering projects.

Main Duties

Reporting to the Lead Development Engineer, the Development Engineering Apprentice will:

  • have the opportunity to develop both a practical and academic understanding of engineering
  • Throughout the apprenticeship, engineers at the beginning of their career, will have opportunity to apply their knowledge and learning to various business initiatives and Development engineering projects
  • Working within a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment, you will form an integral part of the organisations strategic workforce planning designed to support the future business requirements of a Global Competence Centre.

Responsibilities:

  • To build a first-rate practical and theoretical understanding of mechanical engineering skills and processes in the context of fluid mechanics and pneumatics while under the instruction of skilled engineering staff
  • To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as the apprenticeship period progresses by working independently or within a team, to undertake tasks as instructed and increasing overall contribution to the department
  • To undertake and successfully complete suitable college courses throughout the apprenticeship, achieving the academic grades and practical skills to progress
  • Learn and understand the importance of Health & Safety within the workplace
  • To develop the skills and creative thinking required to solve complex problems and then articulate the solution with a high degree of precision
  • To learn the skills required to construct and evaluate and problem solve equipment
  • Develop solutions using the skills you will acquire.
  • To maintain a learning log over the duration of the apprenticeship, recording projects undertaken and skills learned.
  • To observe and comply with Good Housekeeping of the workplace and laboratory areas
  • To maintain a smart appearance and to always act in a professional manner
